Day 7, Saturday, 7 June
Their 4th day of actual trek, and they had conquered the summit earlier this morning!
Our 33rd expedition team camped at Gedung last night. They had rain while trekking the day before but fortunately not much when they slept at night, though it was still very cold. They reached the peak of G. Tahan this morning and stayed there till 1 plus before starting their 2nd part of the journey downwards.
However, due to the rain, the guides made them go down via the Merapoh trail, the slackier one, to avoid the daunting rivers. As of 6 plus pm today, they have probably descended halfway and are cooking/eating their dinner. Meaning they would have explored the whole range of Tahan, all 80km of it (55km K. Tahan trail plus 25km Merapoh trail), by the time they reach the foot tomorrow. :D (although it is still slackier!)
Some words from the expedition team before I was cut off by the poor reception:
KL- It was damn fun camping up at Gedung. It was damn cold. Everyone's extremely fine. JL chionged a lot today 'cos it was downslope all the way.
JL- I LOST MY SPECS WHILE CROSSING THE RIVERS! (luckily he brought a spare one after learning his lesson on Ophir where JX stepped on his specs) Come K. Tahan look for us leh! (33rd, think about it, seriously! They will be reaching merapoh tomorrow(Sunday), taking the night train to Jerantut, and staying there for a day (Monday) while a few will go back to K. Tahan to bring their stuff from the lockers, then heading back to Sg. via the night train on Monday, subjected to availability of trains of course)
JX- I thought I was on the brink of death all the time...( HAHA noob!) Wl eh the mud damn deep sia! Dirty my shoe! (I heard the rest of the team laughing away, probably got an interesting story)
David- Yeah it was fine, everything's fine. The 4-men 3-season tent can fit 5 people!
And before I can finish talking to David and moving on to Ziang and Oon Beng, the reception cut me off... ...
But what matters is that all of them are doing great. And thank God it didn't rain all the time!
And since they didn't go via the traditional path all the way, they will have to do it again! HAHA! Maybe 5 years down the road, we can go along with the 38th. Heh. All fired up. Can't wait for the time to come and for them to return to share their tales.
To their fulfilling journey and safe return,
Yeo
